Know Your Boots

I’ve lived on a farm for many years, raising cattle, horses, also working with all kinds of farm equipment & machinery.  Some things people might think are common sense on what type of clothing to wear, & this would include your feet.  But, that’s not true.  I’ve worn cowboy boots & all kinds of slip-on boots. None of these ever gave my feet true support.  Then there are the lace-up boots, but these vary quite a bit & rarely do you find boots with good arch supports… An insole helps a lot.  Between having a lace-up boot to give my ankles support by adjusting the laces & having a good insole—my feet feel good all day.  There is also the option of a steal-toe boot to protect you while working around machinery.

Boots made out of nice leather are important, not too thick, thin, or soft.  Soft leather would not hold up under working conditions.  Redwing boots meet many of these good standards.

To have your boots last longer it’s important to keep them clean & removing dirt every day.  To clean them I like using saddle soap & if your boots have faded areas in color, use the right color of polish.  If you’ve tended to your boots properly & you’ve been around water, your boots & feet will stay dry.

Of course, your boots can only last so long because your soles will eventually wear out.  If this is the case & you’ve kept the leather top of your boots in good condition, it’s cheaper to have them re-soled than buy new boots.
